California Celebrates Gay Marriage, Gears Up for Battle Ahead

On Monday, California became the second state in the U.S. to grant full marriage quality to gay and lesbian couples. After waiting for more than half a century for legal recognition of their relationship, lesbian activists Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon became one of the first same-sex couple in California to legally marry. On Tuesday, hundreds of gay and lesbian couples will follow in their footsteps to celebrate the latest victory in the fight for LGBT marriage equality.

The Family Jamm! 2003 Benefit Concert
Members of Prince’s former backing band, “The Revolution” will reunite to perform with other key musicians responsible for bringing the “Minneapolis Sound” to the airwaves in the 1980s. Artists such as Sheila E., The Family, and members of The Time, as well as special guest stars Chaka Khan and Patti Labelle will perform at the "1st Annual Family Jamm!" proceeds will go to the Lil’ Angel Bunny Foundation.

Redwoods larger and more beautiful than the imagination can conceive, an open doorway to the majestic coast with rolling ocean waves and picture perfect sunsets, wineries, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, camping, and world class gay resorts. This is the imprint left on my mind forever by the area on the northern coast of California known as the Russian River.

San Francisco's Gay Playground Attracts Worldwide Visitors

The growing popularity of gay events along the Russian River, including Lazy Bear Weekend for men and the Women's Weekends in the spring and late summer, are symbolic of the renaissance of the Russian River as a gay getaway. Guerneville, a scenic 90-minute drive north of San Francisco, is a world apart from the city but it has long been the city's playground.
